Richard
Elliott is the founder and Managing
Director of Strategic Sales International Limited which provides
chief executives with independent advice in preparing their companies
and their people for change and for profitable growth. He works
with clients in the UK, Europe, Asia and Asia Pacific. His focus
is on the continuous development of people to achieve sustained
profitable growth for his clients.
His early career was with Unilever where he grew
into a succession of senior roles in sales, sales promotion and
marketing in the UK, USA and India. He moved to Beecham Group International
as Sales Development Director where his innovative people development
programme - in which Bill Evans played a major role - made a significant
contribution to the successful profitability of the division.
When he formed Strategic Sales International Limited,
his first assignment, was to work as Circulation Sales Director
with a newly formed management team in the ailing Mirror Group Newspapers
in the UK. His total reconstruction of the sales operation included
the switch from rail to road distribution, reduction in wholesalers
from over 2,000 to 200, re-training the sales force and establishment,
for the first time, of a responsive management information system.
He was a leading member of a management team which reversed a 10
year history of declining sales and transformed a loss of £5m
in 1985 into a profit of £88m in 1990.
Since then, he has applied his sales, sales promotions
marketing and organisation skills to develop profit growth for many
companies through UK, Europe, Asia and Asia Pacific. Once structure
is designed and agreed he achieves profit growth through the sensitive
development of people frequently using specifically written experiential
